Dr. Barrett is an accomplished Pharma and Medical Affairs Leader with 23 years experience in both large and small Pharma including Pfizer, Aptalis, Actavis, and Astellas. She established and currently serves as Principal of Highview Medical Consulting, LLC. Dr. Barrett has a strong track record of interfacing science and business imperatives across different geographies in rapidly evolving health care environments. Her expertise is in strategic and operational aspects of value creation for products in late clinical development and commercial stages in multiple therapeutic areas, for blockbusters as well as orphan products in big Pharma and small biotech organizations. Dr. Barrett has proven experience in leading, driving and executing strategic and tactical business plans across the full spectrum of clinical drug development through commercialization; encompassing key multidisciplinary strategic functions. She is a passionate strategically-minded leader with a demonstrated ability for inspiring local and virtual teams to deliver results beyond expectations by building consensus, creating an environment of ownership, accountability, excellence and fun, while adhering to high ethical and business standards. During her diverse career, Dr. Barrett has developed significant experience and expertise in Medical Affairs, Regulatory Affairs, Clinical Development and Safety/Risk Management. Her therapeutic experience and expertise include: Pain/CNS (neuropathic pain, pain, fibromyalgia, multiple sclerosis, epilepsy, migraine, depressive disorders, anxiety disorders, PTSD), Orphan Diseases (cystic fibrosis, Huntington’s Disease), Gastroenterology ( IBD, H. pylori, gall stone disease), erectile dysfunction and hormone replacement therapy.

Dr. Barrett’s significant accomplishments include:

• Lead clinician for Lyrica (pregabalin), drove the value creation for Lyrica in fibromyalgia (US), epilepsy (Global) and neuropathic pain (Global) and led medical and scientific aspects of US and global launch activities and commercialization initiatives

• Directed and implemented Ph3b/4 clinical and HEOR studies, created formulary and pricing dossiers, publications, commercial initiatives and set long-term goals and objectives for internal and external research programs for three organizations

• Pharmacovigilence Team Lead for Viagra (sildenafil) responsible for creating and implement risk management activities

• Medical and regulatory support for the launch and re-launch of more than 10 US/Global products and indications in pain, neurology, psychiatry, gastroenterology, urology, rare and orphan diseases

• Contributed to 10 INDs, 3 NDAs, 6 sNDAs from both regulatory and clinical perspective

• Maximized peri- and post-LOE product value for a portfolio of 26 products, spanning 7 therapeutic areas, all geographies and all stages of lifecycle

• Developed regulatory strategy and innovative medical advocacy for 2 successful global “first” indications for Zoloft: Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and premenstrual dysphoric disorder

• Effectively changed the value creation paradigm in three organizations by transforming/establishing an integrated Medical Affairs organization to create AMCP dossiers, design and implement HEOR studies and support budget impact models, and develop pricing and reimbursement strategies for multiple therapeutic areas

• Created the first Medical Affair function for branded opioid products within a large generics organization

• Created the vision, strategy and infrastructure for Medical Excellence function within Global Medical Affairs for Astellas Pharma through increasing transparency, global alignment, competencies and capabilities, strategic planning and governance and optimizing publications

• Scientific Reviewer and Rapporteur for the Ministère des Finances et de l’Économie for Québec, Canada

Dr. Barrett earned her PhD in Physiology from the University Of Medicine And Dentistry Of New Jersey, Graduate School Of The Biomedical Sciences (Newark, NJ). She also received a National Research Service Award from the National Institutes of Mental Health (Sponsoring Institution: Columbia University, College of Physicians & Surgeons, Department of Anatomy & Cell Biology, New York, NY) as well as an NIMH Training grant (Sponsoring Institution: Columbia University, College of Physicians & Surgeons, Department of Psychiatry–Developmental Psychobiology, New York, NY. ) for her Postdoctoral Fellowship.

Dr. Barrett is the author of 73 peer-reviewed original reports, abstracts and presentations.
